History of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Manchester Central

Acquisition of the Gurdwara Building

In 1999,  Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Manchester Central acquired its current building, establishing a permanent place of worship and community center for Sikhs in Manchester. This marked a significant milestone in the history of our Gurdwara, providing a dedicated space for religious ceremonies, community gatherings, and educational activities.

Prakaash of Guru Granth Sahib Ji

The spiritual heart of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, was ceremoniously installed in 2000. This sacred scripture, revered by Sikhs worldwide as the eternal Guru, guides and inspires all aspects of life at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha. Its installation symbolizes the spiritual foundation upon which our Gurdwara is built, fostering a place of worship and learning for all who seek enlightenment and peace.

Here are some of the glimpse of that historical day.

Community and Langar Sewa

During its early years, the langar sewa at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha was lovingly taken care of by Sikh community families. Langar, the free community kitchen, is a hallmark of Sikhism, embodying the principles of equality, selfless service (sewa), and community solidarity. Through the dedicated efforts of volunteers, Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha continues to uphold this tradition, offering nourishment to all visitors regardless of background, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among all who partake.

Continued Growth and Service

Since its inception,Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha has grown not only in physical space but also in its role as a spiritual and community hub. Through regular congregational prayers, educational programs for children and adults, cultural celebrations, and outreach initiatives, our Gurdwara remains committed to serving the spiritual, social, and educational needs of the Sikh community and beyond.
